Whimbrel (Numenius phaeopus)

Whimbrels are an over-wintering and passage migrant and are a great deal commoner than their larger cousin the Curlew. They have a much darker and shorter bill than Curlews and also a pale supercilium and a prominent pale median crown stripe both of which the Curlew lacks.
