Although a year-round resident, Lesser Short-toed Larks are a much more difficult species to encounter than the Greater Short-toed Lark. It has a thicker bill, a streaked chest and a more streaked and less rufous crown, which it sometimes raises to form a tiny, flat crest. Found in low vegetation bordering salt pans along the coastline of the Algarve.
