Squacco Heron (Ardeola ralloides) Papa-ratos

Squaccos are gorgeous! They feed on the fringes of reed-beds and can be easily overlooked as their camouflage blends them in perfectly with the whiteish stems of the reeds. They also show a remarkable amount of white in flight, and can be mistaken for a Cattle Egret at these times. Migratory, they arrive in April and stay until late September, spending the winter south of the Sahara.
