Rufous Bush Robin (Cercotrichas galactotes) Rouxinol-do-mato

A summer visitor, the Rufous Bush Robin is a Sparrow-sized species that I am always glad to find and see.

Widespread, though nowhere common, they have a late arrival and an early departure, May to September, and though they are faithful to particular locales, should there be a problem it can be many months before another pair can be found.

They are more than normally tolerant of human presence, even during their breeding period, and it is relatively easy to pinpoint the exact location of a nest. When encountered they are unmistakeable as they often sing in the open and raise and fan their distinctive russet brown tail with white tips.
